A Lifetime of Experience: Schneider Custom Builders
Jim Schneider of Schneider Custom Builders of Norfolk (www.schneidercustombuilders.com) has been a member of the Bay Creek Builders Guild since 2003, and has built more homes in the community than any other custom builder, including a number of architectural masterpieces overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
He’s been involved in the home building industry virtually all his life. His father was a custom builder and put a hammer in his hand when he was just nine years old. He was running his own framing crew before he turned 20 and started Schneider Custom Builders in the early 1990s.
Jim is one of four builders selected to build the Ideal Home Collection at Bay Creek, sponsored by Ideal Living magazine. His is called the Littleton Tazewell Home, designed by Suzanne Stern of Our Town Plans. The 3,000 square foot home will include a number of high-end features and finishes and is priced at $2.1 million.
He was originally attracted to Bay Creek by “the vision of the developers and their commitment to doing things the right way — down to the smallest detail,” he said. “That’s the same way I run my business, so it was a natural fit.”
His success is built on the old-school values he learned from his father. “We’re a relationship-based company,” he says. “We work hard to create lasting relationships with our clients. We’re proud of the fact that our business is nearly 100 percent referral-based.”
For many years, his company has worked closely with architects and designers to build many beautiful vacation and retirement homes on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He and his company enjoy an outstanding reputation among the residents of Bay Creek and the Eastern Shore region.
Jim continues to add new skills to his resume. He’ll earn a Masters in Green Building and Master Graduate Builder in January, adding to the Certified Green Professional, Certified Aging in Place Specialist and Certified Graduate Builder designational he already holds.
He and his wife Sue have been married for 26 years and have two children, a daughter in college and a son in high school.
